2020 Guide to Fitness, Health, & Wellness

As mothers we excel at taking care of others, but it’s infinitely more difficult to turn inward and take care of ourselves. But guess what? We need to! Self-care is so important: the act of being intentional and consistent with our own well-being is essential.

Throughout the year, we at Mid-Michigan moms will be sharing many ways to care for YOU, but as we kick off the new year {and decade!} we are putting the focus on health, wellness, and fitness. There are so many wonderful, local hot spots in + around Mid-Michigan to explore self-care through health, wellness, and fitness, and we’re so excited to share a few of our favorites here with you in our second annual Guide!

Whether you’re an avid runner or someone who doesn’t even own a pair of work-out shoes, there is something for everyone in this guide. The focus is mainly on you, although getting your family involved can be so much fun and beneficial, too! Read on to learn more!

Wellness Center is located in Saline and specializes in providing healthy solutions for adults and children with issues related to their skin, digestion, fertility, weight loss, pregnancy, allergies, appetite, and so much more! Monika is a clinical social worker in the state of Michigan with over ten years of experience in the field of social work in the school and mental health settings and recently opened her own practice as a mental health therapist. She specializes in working with women and adolescent girls suffering from depression, anxiety, self-esteem/body image issues, life transitions, life stressors and more.

Monika’s therapeutic approach is client centered, mindfulness based and incorporates a holistic approach, that all components of ones’ life are interrelated. She utilizes Psychodynamic Therapy to bring self-awareness and understanding of the past on present behaviors as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to understand the connection between one’s thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Her goal is to help her clients find emotional well-being by understanding the mind-body connection.  Monika believes that every person has the potential for personal awareness and growth and to live a healthier and happier life!

The Barre Code is a comprehensive full-body fitness program designed for women across the country to find their ’strong.’ Built on the principles of cardio, strength, and restoration, The Barre Code goes beyond the barre, with classes ranging from cardio kickboxing to full mind & body restoration. In addition, their program and community work for EVERY body. Whether you’re a fitness professional or brand-new to exercise, their empowering and motivational community will make you feel strong, centered, and inspired.

Barre Intensity® combines attributes of Pilates, dance, and functional fitness training.  Through her classes, that take place in both Fenton and Grand Blanc, Kara incorporates small isolated movement to fatigue the muscles, large range motion to elevate the heart rate, and sequencing that incorporates upper and lower body to make every minute count!

You can find Kara teaching at Studio 11 (next to Little Joe’s) in Grand Blanc five days a week.  Classes are $11 each or a 10-class punch card can be purchased for $95 dollars.  In Fenton, Kara teaches at Bloom Pilates inside the Fenton Ballet Theatre Wednesdays at 945am, classes are $15 or you can purchase a multi-class pack.  A favorite of our team, Kara provides the instruction and enthusiasm for a great entire body workout!
